General Summary:

Manages and evaluates the activities of the dialysis programs. Ensures comprehensive, quality care for the patient on dialysis. Responsible for organizing and implementing educational programs and providing development opportunities for staff. Participates in the administration of unit policies and procedures as well as ensuring that all Federal End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) requirements are met. Represents the organizations in a professional manner.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports and maintains a team program and delegates responsibilities to provide the supervision and instruction necessary to meet the needs (physical, mental, emotional) of the patient and family.

  • Serves as liaison between the patient, staff and physician, assuring the patient’s right to appropriate therapy. Interprets and executes doctor’s orders, and ensures that the patients are treated with dignity, respect and ensures consideration is given to individual

needs.

  • Provides direct patient care when necessary. Administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician according to established procedures.

    Program Management:

  • Promotes and maintains a harmonious, efficient intra-departmental relationship by coordinating staff and patient flow in the unit.

  • Responsible for planning patient schedules.

  • Efficiently schedules staff to meet patient

needs.

  • Completes employee performance management.

  • Participates in the recruitment and hiring process of new employees.

  • Assures completion of new hire and termination of employee paperwork.

Reports appropriately, and in a timely fashion any unusual occurrences. Ensuring follow

up is complete.

  • Participates in all appropriate administrative meetings.

  • Promotes and maintains smooth working relationship between his/her unit and other units.

  • Ensures and participates in in-service educational programs.

  • Serves as professional role model for staff.

  • Available to outside organizations as a resource.

  • Effectively accomplishes work through others by appropriate delegation.

  • Routinely reviews performance of team.

  • Assures team member’s documentation is accurate and complete.

  • Quality Improvement Program:

  • Coordinates all unit activities for the quality improvement program.

  • Assures participation from all members of the quality improvement committee.

  • Documents activities per established protocol.

  • Coordinates actions and interventions resulting from quality improvement meetings,

    ESRD Network:

  • Participates as requested by Network committees in quality improvement activities (i.e., audits, data submission and survey completion).

  • Responsible for coordination and submission of statistics according to Network requirements.

    Financial/Fiscal Responsibilities:

  • Monitors staffing levels.

  • Evaluates staffing needs and makes recommendations accordingly based on metrics and targets.

  • Monitors medication and supply inventory reports. Recommends adjustments of

inventory levels in unit based on usage and anticipated treatment and patient increase/decreases.

  • In conjunction with the Administrator analyzes increases/decreases in per treatment revenues and expense.

  • Participates in preparation of annual budget; specifically activity and staffing levels, and capital equipment needs.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing Required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Michigan required.

  • A minimum of 12 months of experience in nursing care and an additional 6 months experience in providing care to patients on maintenance dialysis required.

  • Previous leadership/supervisory experience preferred, preferably in dialysis.

  • AIPbonus eligible.
