Job Description

What your new role will entail:

We have two exciting Civil Engineer openings in our Water Engineering team in Edinburgh.

As an Engineer, you will provide valuable support to the project design and delivery cycle and assist in identifying the need for design resources and specialist input (ecological, geotechnical, hydraulic modelling, MEICA etc.). You will take responsibility for applying your technical knowledge and assisting with managing stakeholder expectations, and also be available to apply your knowledge of crucial design processes and communication skills.

The Role:

  • Role responsibilities include timeous delivery, quality, cost, HSE and ensuring compliance with the Client’s established specifications and procedure. Delivering outline and detailed designs of both portable water and wastewater infrastructure, pipeline and distribution projects will also be a key focus.

  • Provide specialised technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Assisting in developing construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

  • Use expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).

  • Assisting in the quality control reviews of design calculations or drawings.

  • Prepare technical specification sections.

  • Provide input to the development of engineering budgets and schedules to meet requirements.

Being part of our Water team in Edinburgh offers an opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of projects and clients. This would give you the opportunity to broaden your experience and develop new skills and ways of working. In recent times we have supported the wider UK business by delivering projects for Wessex Water, NI Water, Welsh Water (DCWW), Scottish Water, Network Rail and local authorities. These projects have ranged from small scale surface water drainage and general civils to large scale Water Treatment works and everything in between. These have also been delivered across the project life cycle, again giving you the variety to keep things interesting.

Our Edinburgh civils team is a medium sized team of around 20 people. We are a supportive team, where everyone has a keen interest to develop themselves and each other. We have a strong culture of professional development where everyone is committed to having a goal of achieving professional accreditation and or support others to achieve professional accreditation.

Qualifications

Here's what we will need from you:

  • Engineering degree qualified.

  • Experience delivering detailed outlines and designs of potable water/wastewater infrastructure

  • Approaching chartered engineer status with a view to progress your professional qualification.

  • Experience in the full cycle of project design delivery from inception to detailed design.

  • Able to work with minimal supervision on major water and/or drainage infrastructure engineering projects.

  • Flexible to travel to other AECOM and client offices.
