Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a University Sanitarian (Manager Food Safety Operations) for the department of Dining Services. This position's essential purpose is to establish, standardize, audit, and elevate the safe operation and sanitary conditions of foodservice operations within the University.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Monitors and inspects to ensure foodservice facilities remain compliant with health, safety and environmental regulations set forth by local, county, state and federal agencies pertaining to food and foodservice.
  • Coordinates and trains all foodservice personnel in the areas of food sanitation and occupational safety.
  • Oversees activities of pest management and industrial cleaning firms that provide services to Dining facilities.
  • Provides consultation, and training to student affairs organizations and departments in all areas related to foodservice activities at the University.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree preferably in Biology and/or Food Microbiology.
  • Five years' experience in Food Service of public health environment, in a quality or food safety professional role, or other related experience is required.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Must be a licensed New Jersey Sanitary inspector First Grade and DEP Certified - Food Service Category.
  • Must possess valid New Jersey Driver's License.
  • Must possess National Restaurant Association Serv Safe Instructors Credential.
  • Must possess of National Restaurant Association Serv Safe Exam Proctors Credential.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must possess effective training skills to conduct formal training programs.
  • Must possess effective communication skills to explain food safety laws and policies.
  • Knowledge of quantity food sanitation and food equipment is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to assess health risks, interpret public health laws and apply them to situations.
  • Ability to prepare reports of inspection containing findings, conclusions, recommendation.
  • DEP Certified Pesticide Applicator preferred.
  • Possession of Valid/Active Registered Environmental Health Specialist License issued by NJ Department of Health & Senior Services

  • Must be able to access all areas of foodservice facilities to include, roofs, crawlspaces, walk in freezer/refrigeration units, mechanical rooms.
