Shell Senior ICE engineer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

What is the role?

The Sr. Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (ICE) Engineer is an integral member in the Brazil Projects and Technology team and will report to the Project Lead providing support to Shell-Operated Venture (SOV) projects and assets, with a focus on assuring the ‘safe, compliant, and reliable’ operations and project scope delivery.

The Sr. ICE Engineer is responsible to support the daily operations of the asset delivering through the local Operations and Maintenance contractors of the respective FPSOs. The engineer provides assurance over the activities carried out by the contractors in the short-term activities, as well as work together with the MRTA team to develop the medium to long term plans and projects, improving reliability and effectiveness of ICSS/PLC/Supervisory systems, PMS/GTGs/VFDs/electrical systems, field instrumentation and any other associated equipment.

Accountabilities:

  • Perform Proactive Technical Monitoring activities leveraging PI Historian data and take part of the regular Operations meetings.

  • Be active on the planning process.

  • Focal Point for the Alarm management discipline.

  • Ensure compliance with Project Management Framework and Shell´s Project Principles.

  • Define, own and achieve business plan targets for project activities.

  • Accountable for achieving Goal Zero on project execution by providing HSE leadership and driving continuous improvement in HSE.

  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, Audits, Risk assessments and HSE cases, as required.

  • Perform activities as per Assurance Plan.

  • Management of key contracts. Accountable for the elaboration of contract scopes and technical specifications, possibly aggregating the role of Contract Owner and/or Contract Holder.

  • Ensure thorough investigation for root cause of equipment failures or performance degradation delivering thereafter the implementation of improvement actions and processes.

  • Support the implementation of mid-term/long-term reliability and integrity plans.

  • Ensure governance and proper classification/control of the related data.

  • Network with Shell regional and global support specialists to ensure application of best practices and maximize value for Shell.

What we need from you?

  • Control and Automation, Electrical or Electronic Engineering degree. Minimum of 8 years of experience in O&G processing facilities, preferably offshore platform/FPSO Topsides.

  • Core technical background in the field of instrumentation and Controls – but serve as focal point/first responder to Electrical Engineering demands.

  • Core Technical knowledge must cover the wide range of ICE topics, including but not limited to design, installation and maintenance of ICSS/Automation Systems, F&G Detection, field instrumentation, analytical instruments, control and on-off/safety valves, interface with telecoms, electrical and other misc. third-party packages.

  • Hardware experience in topside equipment, experience in troubleshooting problems, experience in managing sub-contractors.

  • Stakeholder and interface management skills with business functions including Logistics, Supply Chain, Finance and Regulatory.

  • HSSE leadership and Goal Zero performance in an environment dominated with contractor and sub-contractor relationships delivering the base business.

  • Manage multiple and complex contract management interfaces.

  • Application, adaption and maintenance of new and novel technologies in the topside environment.

  • The competence required for this position is a combination of technical mastery, leadership and influencing skills, operational delivery skill, experience of building and operating diverse relationships while exhibiting a deep understanding the commercial objectives and environment in which Shell Brazil operates.

  • HSSE and safety leadership experience.

  • Sound technical judgment and skilled in production excellence standards to deliver impactful decisions in the commercial environment.

  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls as needed and work extended hours as appropriate. Offsite travel eventually required, including ad-hoc embark on FPSOs.

  • Experience in interfacing with technical and non-technical stakeholders to develop optimal solutions. Understanding of how to transform diverse stakeholder requirements into actionable system requirements and how to progress them into value driven solutions.

  • Support the implementation and sustainability of SEAM Framework.

  • Knowledge in the field of SIS/Functional Safety. TüV Functional Safety Certification will be a plus.

  • CREA is required.

  • Pursue and achieve status of internal Technical Authority within the region.

  • Fluent in English and Portuguese.

  • Capable of multi-tasking within a fast-paced environment, whilst demonstrating resilience and endurance to deal with challenging operational needs.
