Amazon Senior Economist, Advertising Finance Econ and Science in Seattle, Washington

Amazon.com is seeking an exceptional Senior Economist to join our Advertising Finance team. As a tech lead of the Adpt Finance Econ and Science team, you will play a pivotal role in answering critical questions that drive the long-term strategy of our advertising business. These questions include:

  • What are the long-term impacts of our initiatives?

  • Where will Advertising’s growth come from in the next year?

  • How big will the Advertising business become over the next three years?

  • What are the interactions between consumers and the Ads business?

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead causal analysis projects as the primary technical expert, guiding the team in applying advanced economic methodologies to solve complex business challenges.

  • Collaborate closely with economists, data scientists, financial managers, and business leaders to define product requirements, offer scientific support, and effectively communicate feedback throughout project lifecycles.

  • Utilize programming languages such as Python, R, Scala, etc., to implement sophisticated economics methods tailored to address specific business problems, ensuring robustness and scalability.

  • Drive continuous improvement by innovating existing methodologies, including developing new data sources, rigorously testing model enhancements, and fine-tuning model parameters to optimize performance and accuracy.

  • Present data and insights in a clear, actionable format, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions and address critical business questions with confidence.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in economics or equivalent

  • Experience in building statistical models using R, Python, STATA, or a related software

  • Experience in analytics and applied economics

  • Experience in econometrics (e.g., program evaluation, forecasting, time series, panel data, or high dimensional problems), economic theory, and quantitative methods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industry, consulting, government or academic research

  • Experience in developing and executing an analytic vision to solve business-relevant problems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
