Burrell Behavioral Health Navigator in St. Charles, Missouri

Job Description:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct (at least 4) outreach events/activities for the community a month.

  • Help individuals with insurance eligibility options.

  • Help small business employers and their employees with insurance eligibility options.

  • Facilitate insurance enrollment.

  • Provide insurance information in the best interest of the consumer.

  • Facilitate communication and patient empowerment in interactions with healthcare/social service systems.

  • Troubleshoots any barriers the patient might have in adhering to healthcare.

  • Engage in the community through outreach to recruit and engage uninsured patients.

  • Serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to healthcare options and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery.

  • Build individual and community relationships to improve access to healthcare.

  • Connects patients to community resources and/or within the organization.

  • Performs general support activities and carries out special projects as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and competencies with harm reduction, motivational interviewing and relevant treatment modalities that are being used in the field.

  • Knowledge of culture and values in the local community.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being.

  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets for tracking patient engagements and enrollments.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED with some college is required.

Undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health Nursing, Health Education, or a related field from an accredited school is preferred.

Two (2) years of experience working in community health, human services outreach and/or healthcare preferred.

Desirable experience includes: customer service, patient/peer coaching, medical patient interaction, community relations, outreach, data entry and public speaking.

Employment Requirements:

  • Must complete Navigator training and navigator licensure requirements within 1 month of employment.

  • Adhere to conflict of interest standards.

  • Provide special accommodations to patients needing access to healthcare.

  • Uphold Marketplace privacy and security standards

  • Must provide evidence that incumbent is free of infectious and contagious disease prior to beginning employment and annually thereafter.

  • TB– Expected for all direct care staff. Mandatory for Kansas Residential staff.

  • Annual Health Assessment- Mandatory Kansas Youth Residential staff

  • Successful completion of the Criminal Record and Child Abuse & Neglect Background check prior to beginning employment.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation within 30 Days of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias Learning within two (2) weeks of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Achievement of the following training.

  • Missouri Staff: thirty-six (36) hour training requirements within a 2 year period in accordance with 9 CSR 10-7.110 E 1.

  • Kansas Residential Youth Homes: eighteen (18) hours of training annually.

  • First Aid certification within three (3) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date.

  • Obtain CPR certification within three (3) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date.

  • Behavioral Management training completed within thirty (30) days of employment or first available class after start date:

  • CPI for Residential programs

  • Peaceful Intervention or Verbal De-escalation for Outpatient programs

  • Completion of “Direct Service Expectations” within 30 Days of employment.

  • Extensive knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations of the program to which the employee is assigned.

  • Valid Driver’s License in state of residence.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
